How to Fix a Leaking Vape Pod: Causes and Step-by-Step Fixes

A leaking pod wastes e-liquid, ruins pockets and eventually corrodes the contacts on your device. The good news: leaking is almost always a symptom of technique or wear, not a defective product. Here is how to diagnose and fix it properly.

1. Overfilling the Pod

The most common cause by far. Every pod has a central chimney that carries vapour to the mouthpiece — pour liquid into that and it runs straight out of the airflow holes. Fill to roughly 90% capacity and keep the bottle tip against the pod wall, never over the centre tube.

2. Air Trapped During Filling

Squeezing air into the pod while filling creates pressure that pushes liquid out afterwards. Squeeze the bottle before inserting the tip, release pressure before withdrawing, then let the pod stand upright for two minutes so the wick absorbs evenly.

3. Worn Silicone Seals

The rubber plugs over the fill port harden and shrink with repeated opening. Once they no longer sit flush, leaking is guaranteed. This is wear, not damage — replace the pod. Keep spares from our pod kit range so a worn seal never costs you a day of use.

4. Pressure Changes

Air travel and even Malaysia’s temperature swings from an air-conditioned office to a hot car change internal pod pressure and force liquid through the coil. Store the device upright, and when flying, empty the pod or carry it in a sealed bag.

5. Inhaling Too Hard

An aggressive pull floods the wick faster than the coil can vaporise it. The excess collects in the chimney, producing both gurgling and leaking. Switch to slow, gentle draws of one to two seconds.

6. Wrong VG/PG Ratio

Thin, high-PG liquid seeps through the wicking ports of a coil designed for thicker liquid. Match your juice to the pod: MTL pods want higher-PG salt nic; sub-ohm coils want higher-VG freebase. Check the ratio on the bottle before buying — every listing in our e-liquid section states it.

7. Condensation Mistaken for Leaking

Droplets around the mouthpiece and airflow are often just condensed vapour, not leaked juice. It is harmless and normal. Wipe the airway with a dry cotton bud every couple of days.

Emergency: Juice Inside the Device

Remove the pod immediately, dry the contact plates with tissue, and leave the device upside down for a few hours. Do not charge it while damp. Liquid on the contacts causes weak firing and “check pod” errors long before it causes permanent failure — catching it early usually saves the device.

FAQ

Should a brand-new pod leak on first use?
No. A small amount of condensation is normal, but visible liquid at the airflow on the first fill usually means it was overfilled or the seal is faulty.

Can I still use a pod that has leaked?
Yes, if the coil is otherwise healthy. Clean everything thoroughly, refill correctly, and monitor. If it leaks a second time, the seal is done.
